Bit of History.....

In 1991 the Cole Family had a vision to produce a range of premium wines which emphasised the unique characteristics of the region. The family have all worked hard to share this vision.

The Cambewarra Estate vineyard was planted on 20 acres of dairy land. With the magnificent Cambewarra mountain as a backdrop, 12 acres of vineyard have been planted. Planted are Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, the exciting new variety Chamboucin, and Verdelho, winner of the Boutique Wine Trophy. The rolling hills of the Shoalhaven Valley surround the two acres of dams which irrigate the vines.

Cambewarra Estate was officially opened by the Lord Mayor of the Shoalhaven City Council in October 1994. The name Cambewarra has a direct association with the Estate's unique surroundings and immediately conjures up images of the striking landscape. In the local Aboriginal language Cambewarra means 'misty mountain'. This dramatic feature can be seen from the Estate at different times.

The Cambewarra Estate vineyard is fully drip-irrigated using dam water, via a computerized watering system, allowing the grape vigour to be more accurately controlled. The maritime Shoalhaven climate, with cool, moderate, sea breezes during the ripening period, allows the grapes' entire characters to fully develop.

Cambewarra Estate produces a limited quantity of premium wines, ensuring each receives personal attention. Vines are nurtured with loving care which is appreciated in the final product. The depth of flavour we achieve is a result of the quality fruit produced. Hand picking, the optimum northerly aspect and good drainage ensure that the final product is of the best quality.

The wines of Cambewarra Estate, like the distinctive region in which they are produced, have an elegance and identity that are widely recognized.

This is highlighted in our Chamboucin, which won a bronze medal in its first vintage in 1994 and has continued to accumulate many gold, silver and bronze medals in significant wine shows. Cambewarra Estate won the first gold medal awarded in Australia for our Chamboucin Port (at Cowra in 1998), and we have also won a national trophy for our Cabernet Sauvignon.

All our wines are vintaged at Tamburlaine in the Hunter Valley from fruit grown on the Cambewarra Estate. Our chief winemaker, Mark Davidson, has many years experience and exceptional skill which we draw upon to produce our premium wines.
